You need to set big goals so you're working towards greatness. In the case of the lunar landing, their goal could definitely be labelled as big, hairy & audacious - but they achieved it. I also really like your point that raising money should be the beginning - this provides you with a runway, and that's when you can work on the achieving the goals you've set out for yourself.
